  1. FIRST it is important to recognize that the noun is revelation, sigular, not revelations, plural. The term revelation comes from the Greek word Apokalupsis & means "an unvveiling or uncovering". You will see it used in the epistles as "manifestation" (Romans 8:19), a "coming" (1 Cor. 1:7), a "revealing" (2 Thes. 1:7), and an "appearing" (1 Peter 1:7). The Book of Revelation, then, concerns the unveiling or appearing of our precious Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. Not the story of St. Johh the Devine or even of prophetical truth, but rather the message of the "appearing of Christ". This appearing takes place at the Rapture (chapter 4, verse 1), as well as at the hour of His return to the earth when every eye shall see Him (Chapter 1, verse 7)

  2. SECOND, The term "shortly" in the original means "rapidity of action once there is a begining". These truths then, are sent and signified by Christ's angels unto John, the writter of the book, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Notice the first four letters of signified spell SIGN. Why? The Book of Revelation is the study of signs. There is a sign of the Holy Spirit presented as seven spirits (verse 4)and the sign of the seven golden candlesticks and seven stars (verse 20). Thus, through signs, we come to an understanding of this glorious portion of scripture.

  3. Revelation 1:2
[John] bare record of the word of God and of the testimony of Jesus Christ and of all things he saw.
    This statement is self-explanitory

  4. Revelation 1:3
Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
God promises a special blessing to those that read, hear and keep these things that are written. He would not have said that if we were unable to comprehend these truths. This Book is filled with understandable truths that bring joy to the heart because it contains the message of the Saviour.
For the time is at hand means "imminent" or "impending". So literally this could mean immediatley or in 10 minutes or 10 days, 10 months or even 10 years. Having said that, Jesus' return for His Church (the Rapture) could happen at any moment! Exciting Stuff! This is why, as Christians, we should keep our eyes focused on heaven, looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ. (Titus 2:13)

  5. I have an opportunity to go to Haiti to assist for a few days in the recovery process there. I will need to raise $800 to $1000. It will ALL go for ministry purposes! I would also take donations of Bibles to share. Please ask God to direct you in this matter. Email me at MorningCupOfCoffee@Gmail.com to make donations.

  6. Revelation 1:4
    John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you and peace, from him which is and which was and which is to come; and from the seven spirits which are before his throne;
John now focuses his attention to the 7 local churches in Asia. According to scholars this is not the Asia we know today but most likely a portion of Turkey. While only 7 churches are mention though there probably were more. 7 is God's number of perfection. 7 also pictures the 7 different sets of conditiond reflecting the history of Gods people through the Church Age.
God's salutation, Grace be unto you and peace, is found here as well. It is found 19 times in the 27 books of the New Testiment. Notice its not peace then grace as one cannot have God's peace without first having God's perfect grace. This grace was shown at the cross of Calvery and is freely given to all who believe and recieve Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour.
The message of grace and peace is offered from the entire Trinity. First, the Father which is, which was and is to come; second, the 7 Spirits which are before the throne, third,....

  7. Revelation 1:5
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness and the first begotten of the dead and the prince of the kings of the earth.Unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood.
The reason that Christ is the "first begotten" from the dead is because, while others (i.e. Lazarus) were raised to life they died again, he was raise from the dead to immortality-never to die again! This is way Christ should be the first that should rise from the dead (Acts 26:23)...and why He only hath immortality (1 Timothy 6:16). It is important to note that Christ is called "the first begotten" or "the firstborn of the dead". Other times He is called "the only begotten". The term "only begotten" refers to His incarnation, whereas "first begotten" (or firstborn) refers to His ressurection. See Hebrews 1:6, Colossians 1:15 and Colossians 1:18.The Lord Jesus Christ is also called the prince of the kings of the earth. This refers to the future when the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6) returns as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Revelation 19:16). This glorious event will be the fullfillments of scripture in Psalm 72:8.

  8. Revelation 1:6
And (He) hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Because of His love and the washing of regeneration, Christ is able to make us kings and priests unto God and his Father. If you are a born-again believer you are a preist in the eyes of the Almighty. You can bring your own petitions to God. You need no other minister/mediator to do that. All born-again believers are (according to 1 Peter 2:9) members of a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that (we) should shew forth the praises of him who hath called (us) out of darkness into his marvellous light. What a great thing! To him be the glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

  9. Revelation 1:7
Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
This verse specifically refers to the RETURN of Christ to earth. This great event is known as the "revealing" or "revelation" of Christ when he returns as King of Kings and Lord of Lords as discribed in Revelation 19:11-16. It is important to note that this is NOT the rapture. The rapture is the churches departure as seen in Revelation 4:1.
"And all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him". This is because here we see the Second Coming of Christ when he returns with his saints (Revelation 19) to execute judgement on all (Jude verses 14 & 15).
"Even so, Amen", interestingly the Greek for even so is "Amen" and the Hebrew for "Amen" is even so.

  10. Revelation 1:8
I am Alpha and Omega, the begining and the ending, saith the Lord which is, and which was and which is to come, the Almighty.
Can that be anymore plan?! These words are directly referring to the eternal Christ. As you may know the alpha and omega symbol are the beging and ending letters in the Greek alphabet. Also Christ uses the title "I am" which is a verb indicating being, not becoming. In other words He always was. We see this in John 1:3, Colossians 1:16,17 and Hebrews 1:3.
The terminology, I am...the Lord which is, and which was and which is to come, expresses Christ's oneness with the Father. In fact, He adds the term, Almighty, a name used for the Father (48 times in the Old Testement) in connection with His person. This verse clearly shows the realationship of the trinity in the Father, the Christ and the Holy Spirit (see verse 4).
